In 1958, he abandoned his work as a pharmacist and moved to Milan to devote himself to painting In 1959 his works were exhibited in three solo shows at the Kasper Gallery in Lausanne, the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice and the Galleria Annunciata in Milan
Between 1965 and 1975 he developed environmental works, which were also presented at the 1968 Venice Biennale where he was invited to exhibit in a personal room In the 1970s, at the centre of the artist’s research were what he called the ‘elementary geometric concepts of the metaphysics of colour’, which were followed by those on the ‘analysis of the line’ In the early 1980s, the line became a sequence of points, giving rise to theHorizon and Orme cycles In 1984, the City of Pistoia dedicated him a large anthological exhibition
Mario Nigro died in Livorno on 11 August 1992
