Biography

Marco Gastini was born in Turin in 1938
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin in 1960, in a late informal climate, the artist experimented with a painting made of minimal traces and gestures, close to the territories practised by contemporary Minimal Art, and later by Analytical Painting From 1966 to 1985, he taught at the Liceo Artistico Between 1967 and 1968, he produced spray-painted pictures and, in the early 1970s, he began to use materials that seemingly distanced him from painting but are in fact nothing more than a personal interpretation of it
His research focuses mainly on the relationship between painting and space and the feelings of attraction and repulsion towards the context in which the works are placed
After a long season characterised by the use of whites, blacks, graffiti on transparent surfaces, the use of colour with more diverse materials such as wood, stone, iron parchment, plaster, terracotta, also chosen for their chromatic values and for their strong physical impact on the surrounding environment, takes over
