Alberto Biasi was born in Padua on 2 June 1937 In his home town, he attended the Liceo Classico and then moved to Venice to attend the Institute of Architecture and the Advanced Course in Industrial Design
In 1958, he began teaching drawing and art history in public schools and in ‘69 he was assigned the chair of advertising graphic arts (which he held continuously until 1988) In the meantime, in parallel with his teaching profession, he continued his activity as an artist, founding the ENNE Group in 1959, with which he would work until 1967, and then continue his solo activity During the 1960s, Biasi became part of that group of artists who, through a new conception of art, brought an innovative spirit to the national and international scene: in 1960 he exhibited with Manzoni, Castellani and the European artists of the New Artistic Conception, in 1961 he joined the New Tendencies movement, in 1962, with Group N (with Bruno Munari, Enzo Mari) while with Group T he participated in the foundation of theProgrammed Art movement
In these early years,Biasi articulated his art according to new canons of research: the interaction of the spectator with the work became an inescapable foundation; movement, in its passive meaning of virtual motion, the apparent effect of movement, led the artist to tackle the problems of kineticism and the consequent research into visual perception and the individual reaction to light stimuli…
Marking the activity of this period are the Trame, alongside which he soon realised the Rilievi ottico-dinamici A few years later, the dynamic Forme ottenute attraverso la torsione di materiali approntati in lamina sottili e disposti secondo geometrie rigorosamente calcolate applicate su fondi cromatici diversi, le Fotoriflessioni in movimento reale e gli Ambienti a percezione instabile began to appear
In addition to devoting much time to activities of civil commitment, Alberto Biasi continued his artistic research by elaborating the Politipi in the 1970s, which would develop in the 1990s through the increasingly accentuated use of colour in the Assemblaggi Another expressive medium of the artist is also sculpture, ranging from Corten steel, aluminium and methacrylate to create his large-scale works, also for outdoor use
His exhibitions, both group and solo, are countless Of particular note is his participation in fundamental exhibitions in the history of kinetic art, such as ‘Nove Tendencije’ in Zagreb and the large exhibition ‘The responsive eye’ at the MoMa in New York More recently, there was a large anthological exhibition in 1988 at the Museo degli Eremitani in Padua, in 1995 the retrospective ‘Biasi and the ENNE Group’ at the Venice Biennale, in 2006 the exhibition of around thirty of his historical works in the halls of the Hermitage in St Petersburg, in 2007 the exhibition at the Museo Diocesano in Barcelona and his participation in 2008 in the International Triennial of Contemporary Art in Prague
