Nicola Carrino was born in Taranto on 15 February 1932
After abandoning his engineering studies, the sculptor devoted himself to art as a self-taught artist, initially concentrating on realist pictorial experiences and later on abstract-cubist deconstuction
After moving to Rome, in 1962, he founded Gruppo 1 with G Biggi, N Frascà, A Pace, P…
Santoro and G Uncini, and it was during these years that Nicola Carrino focused on studying the form and the relationship between this and the space surrounding it
The artist began a logical-constructive work with industrial objects and materials, geometrically structured, which culminated in the transformable Constructivi, combinations of modular elements in iron or steel, available in various organisations
Nicola Carrino has won numerous awards: the Termoli prize in 1963, the Rassegna d’arte del Mezzogiorno prize in Naples in 1966, the international prize at the São Paulo Biennale in Brazil in 1971; his works are exhibited in museums and public spaces
The artist participated in the Youth Biennale in Paris in 1967, Zwölf Italienische Bildhauer at the Kunstverein in Hamburg in 1969, the Venice Biennale in 1966, 1970, 1976, 1986 and the Quadriennale in Rome in 1965, 1973, 1986 The sculptor also devoted himself to teaching at the Higher Institute of Industrial Design in Rome and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, Florence and Frosinone
He died in Rome on 14 May 2018
